Lois Englehart, an incredibly bright light, lost her valiant battle against kidney disease at LGH on Tuesday April 9th. She celebrated her 82nd birthday in February. Born in Columbia, she was the daughter of the late Lewis and Pauline Ott of Columbia.

She worked many years for Grinnell/ Anvil International and then for Wilton Armetale, Schaad Detective Agency, and finally the County of Lancaster all as a secretary and receptionist.

She loved to crochet and read James Patterson books. She also loved watching westerns on MeTv. Her favorite though was Dateline. She had an eclectic taste in music, loving the music of Queen and Guns & Roses while also enjoying the music of Il Divo. She also adored her furry feline companions Pumpkin, YoYo, and Lucky.

A 1960 graduate of Columbia High School, she was a member of Short 60's.

She will be lovingly missed by her children Dee and Greg of Lancaster Township, her granddaughter Samantha McDowell and her husband Daniel of Etters as well as her four great-grandchildren Grayson, Julia, Owen, and Lydia.

Lois is also survived by many nieces and nephews as well as her two sisters Paula and Deborah in Florida. She was predeceased by her parents, her late husband, and her sisters Sally Ott Ringer of Lititz and Mary Katherine Ott Broome of Columbia.

At this time the family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at LGH who took wonderful care of Lois during her stay. The ICU nurses were incredibly supportive during this difficult time. Thank you also to the chaplains at LGH for supporting Dee and Greg at this difficult time. We want to also thank Pastor Fred Thomas for providing spiritual comfort to Lois and her family.

Thank you to her team of doctors over the years that have taken wonderful care of Lois all her life. The family would also like to acknowledge the staff at Bayada and Extended Family Care for providing wonderful at home care for Lois. A very special thank you to Connie Sweigart for the amazing care she provided, not only for Lois but for her family as well. She has now joined her parents in the Heavens above but we know she will always be a major presence in the lives of her children.

Jessica Marie (Herbst) Lake, 40, passed away unexpectedly at home, Thursday, April 04, 2024. She was born in York, PA.

Jess was an amazing person. She had a big heart and magnetic personality. Among the list of things she loved to do are; fishing with her son, making people laugh, unleashing her sense of adventure at Knoebels Amusement Park, and spending time with family and friends.

Sadly, all her talents, friendships, positive outlook, and most importantly, the closeness of family, were sidelined by drug addiction. Jess’s life was cut short before she could conquer the fight. Her sudden and unfortunate passing can be a reminder to each of us and reach out to those in our lives who may be suffering with similar struggles with love, compassion, and helpful resources. Our love for her will be eternally in our hearts!

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved, George Robert “Bob” Mann, who departed this life at age 80 on Saturday, April 6th, 2024. Bob was born in Parkesburg, PA to the late George P. Mann and Isabel Gilbert Mann. He was the loving husband of Barbara A. (Coulson) Mann, with whom he shared 55 years of marriage.

Bob graduated from Milton Hershey School in 1961 and proudly served in the Pennsylvania National Guard. After graduating, he worked as a draftsman and machine designer for DeWalt, Sperry New Holland, and R.R. Donnelley and Sons. During his retirement, he filled his time as a school bus driver.

Bob was mechanically inclined and was always building or tinkering with something. Throughout the years, he and his wife had many hobbies and small businesses. One of his favorite hobbies was collecting model trains, specifically cabooses. His grandchildren have fond memories of visiting his train room and seeing the elaborate sets he built. Bob and Barbara attended Bright Hope BIC Fellowship in Middletown. They often expressed gratitude for the second family they made at the church.

Along with his wife, he is survived by his children, Kirk Wood (Mary), Michael Wood, Holly Wood (Mike Brown) and Wendy Scheuerman (Tony); Grandchildren, Heather, Timothy, Kristine, Shannon, Thomas, Anthony and Victoria, and 15 great-grandchildren; his niece, Joan Novack (Nelson). He was preceded in death by his sister, Peggy Mann Novack.

As we mourn the loss of Bob, let us also celebrate the beautiful life he led and encourage one another to live for Christ by his example. His legacy of kindness, resilience, compassion, and love for God continue to inspire us all.

Timothy “Teedy” Charles Aston, 64, of Columbia, passed away peacefully on March 23, 2024 at St. Anne’s Retirement Community, Columbia after fighting a battle with pancreatic cancer.

He was born on October 28, 1959 in Columbia, PA to Cletus (Teedy) and Dawn Daron Aston.  He is survived by his wife, Eileen Hoffmaster Aston; his son, Timothy S. Aston, and his daughter, Ashley Aston Seifried all of Columbia.  Also surviving are his grandchildren, Kylie Aston and Brady Aston, of Columbia; sister, Donna Loser wife of Jack, of Wrightsville; brother, Brian Aston husband of Lynn, of Columbia.

Teedy recently retired after over 40 years with Woodgrain as an Inventory Control Manager.

As a life-long resident of Columbia he enjoyed golfing and watching sports.  Teedy’s favorite times were spent with family and friends and visiting the beach.

Peggy attended Columbia High School and was a painter with Donsco for a number of years. She enjoyed gardening and was a free spirit who adored her family and treasured spending time with them.

Peggy leaves behind two children, Chuck Waters, companion of Neda Churchwell of Hinesville, GA and Sherry Metzger, fiancé of Fuzz Witman of Wrightsville; six grandchildren, Amber, Kole, Athan, Arion, Elijah, and Emily; six great grandchildren and one on the way; four siblings.

Michelle was a graduate of Hempfield High School with the Class of 1993. She was a graduate of St. Joseph’s University and went on to receive her master’s degree from Albright College. Michelle was a Board Certified Behavior Analyst and Licensed Behavior Specialist who was a coordinator with Ponessa Behavioral Health for the past ten years. She enjoyed the beach, reading, attending festivals, and the theater and arts. Michelle adored her family and friends and treasured spending time with them.

Michelle leaves behind her children, Bryce Fury of Mount Joy, Jade Fury, fiancé of Luke Granbois of Fayetteville, NC, Ethan Fury of Mount Joy; her parents, Bonnie Cavanaugh of Mount Joy and Leroy Donnan of Columbia; three siblings, William, husband of Marlene Knight of Landisville, Opal Heinaman of Mount Joy, Shawn Donnan of Mount Joy; several nieces and nephews and many friends.

Richard worked with Mount Joy Wire for sixty years. He was an avid hunter and bowler who also was an organized collector. Richard had raised pigeons since he was a little boy. Known as the “two-dollar bill man”, he would give a two-dollar bill to anyone he would meet.

Richard leaves behind his daughters, April Null of Marietta, Joanna Barton of Hempstead, NC, Debbie, wife of Bill Shaffer of Mount Wolf; five grandchildren, Nick, Michael, Jonathan, Ryan, and Melissa; four great grandchildren; his brother Charles, Jr., husband of Bonnie Null of Philipsburg. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Irene Rankin.

Elizabeth J. “Betsy” Abreu, 86 of West Hempfield Township, passed away on Sunday, March 17, 2024 at the Lancaster Medical Center. She was the wife of the late Walter R. Abreu with whom she was married 33 years until his death in 2009. Born in Shamokin, PA she was the daughter of the late William and Elizabeth Price Weimer.

Betsy was employed for over 25 years at the Philadelphia Naval Yards and retired from the former Columbia Hospital where she worked in the billing department. She was an active member of St. Leo the Great Church. She enjoyed spending time and vacationing with family. One of her favorite places was Ocean City, NJ where she spent a week every September with them. Betsy and her husband took many trips to Cape May, NJ and Wellsboro, PA to celebrate birthdays and anniversaries.

She loved her cat Henry, he was her “buddy.” He was a great comfort to her. She was loved and will be missed by many.

Betsy is survived by her siblings, Robert Bamford (Vicky); Blanche Goodhart; Debra Nissley (Wayne); nephews, Robert Weimer, Jr.; William Weimer; John Goodhart; Stephen Nissley; niece, Leslie Goodhart Byler (Joel) and many great nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two siblings Marian L. Weimer and Robert P. Weimer, Sr.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Leo the Great Catholic Church, 2427 Marietta Ave. Lancaster PA 17601 on Monday, APRIL 8, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Peter I. Hahn, Celebrant. Anna S. Kiscaden, 96, of Columbia passed away peacefully at home on Friday, March 15, 2024. A 1943 graduate of Columbia High School, she was employed as a secretary for the Columbia Borough School District.

Anna was a woman of faith, great values, and generosity. She enjoyed going shopping, spending time and visiting with her family and friends, vacationing in Ocean City, NJ with her family, Auntie Anne’s soft pretzels, and hot fudge sundaes from Dairy Queen. She will be remembered as a loving, caring, and compassionate person and friend to many. Born in Columbia, Anna was the daughter of the late Walter and Elva Kauffman Splain. She was married for fifty-four years on May 7, 2003 to the late Russell L. Kiscaden.

Surviving are two daughters, Frances, married to Scott Hoffman of Columbia and Sue, married to Lewis Bowser, Jr. of Lititz; a son, Thomas, married to Pamela Kiscaden of Elizabethtown; two grandchildren and three great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Russell L. Kiscaden and one sister, Doris Tavaglione.

Esther attended Columbia High School and worked with Chapman Ford for twenty-one years. She was previously a firefighter/water rescue with the former Washington Boro Fire Co. Esther enjoyed decorating her home and also ceramics and antiquing/flea markets. She adored her family and treasured spending time with them. Esther loved her church family and was a faithful member of Washington Boro United Methodist Church.

Esther leaves behind her husband of forty-four years, Kyle “Spike” Ackerman of Wrightsville; three children, Kyle II, husband of Stacey Ackerman of Lampeter, Daniel, husband of Leona Ackerman of Shiloh; Rebecca, wife of Michael Martin of Lancaster; five grandchildren, Dylan, Luke, Madison, Abigail, and Faith; two siblings, David, husband of Crissy Anderson of Columbia, Kevin Anderson of Syracuse, NY; several nieces and nephews and many friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, John Anderson.

Kevin D. Wallace, 65, of Manheim passed away on March 12, 2024 following a two-month illness. He was born in Philipsburg to the late Raymond and Hannah Wallace and was a lifelong resident of this area. Kevin was a graduate of Columbia High School with the Class of 1976. He proudly served in the United States Army with C Company, 27th Engineer Battalion as a crawler tractor operator. During his service he earned the expert badge M-16, Expert Badge Hand Grenade, Parachute Badge, and Good Conduct Medal. Following his service, Kevin worked with Mount Joy Wire for thirty-eight years until his retirement. He enjoyed hunting and shooting guns with his grandson, Kolby.

Kevin leaves behind his wife of over forty-five years, Robin Tillman Wallace of Manheim; his son, Kevin, Jr., husband of Heather Wallace of Elizabethtown; six grandchildren, Kolby, Kalei, Kinsey, Nikolai, Parker, and Carter; eleven siblings, numerous nieces and nephews, and a large extended family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son Eric Wallace.

Earl T. Hibner, 84, of Columbia passed away on March 14, 2024 following a brief illness. He was born in Lancaster to the late Tyrrell and Theresa Hibner and was a lifelong resident of this area.

Earl was a graduate of McCaskey High School and proudly served in the United States Army. He worked for Armstrong World Industries for his whole career as a researcher and retired in 1994. Earl enjoyed genealogy and spending time with his family.

Earl leaves behind his wife of sixty-three years Arlene Fry Hibner of Columbia; his children, Susan Hibner of Leola, Ken, husband of Robin Hibner of North Charleston, SC; one grandson, James Hibner of Summerville, SC. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three siblings, Paul, Louise, and Joan Hibner; an infant grandchild, Kasey Hibner.

On April 20th 2024, Rose will be laid to rest as a beautiful purple rose bush, beside Jake; a strong growing Dogwood tree, where together, they will continue to grow forever.

Nearly everyone has a treasured memory involving a Rose, and while there are thousands of different roses, there was, and will only ever be, one Roseanna Watson, a rare flower that bloomed on Christmas Day in 1949. Much like how a rose's petals unfold like a story, so did Roseanna's life. With every day, week, month and year she filled our lives with layer after layer of delicious meals and warm blankets of love; as she gifted us with beautifully made and thought-out patterns that she would create with the most perfectly picked colors of yarn; every stitch a symbol of the love she had for her family and friends.

Every bowl of spaghetti soup, every serving of bruschetta, and each Christmas and Easter dinner, will always be the tastes and smells that bring back the most amazing memories of a rare and special woman who (even though it only took one wine cooler to get drunk) always made sure her family was fed, loved and cared for.

On March 2nd 2024, Rosanna's last petal fell at 9:59am, surrounded by her four beautiful and loving children: Thomas, Lisa, Tammy and Jacob Jr. Looking at them for the last time, she drifted into peace and back into the arms of her husband, Jacob Sr.

On April 20th 2024, Rose will be laid to rest as a beautiful purple rose bush, beside Jake; a strong growing Dogwood tree, where together, they will continue to grow forever. Ellen Marie Yates, 82, of Landisville, passed away on Monday evening, March 11, 2024, at Lancaster General Hospital.  She was the mother of Lorraine E. Keeley and the sister of James Raymond Stapleton of Florida.  She was born in New York and was the daughter of the late Raymond Joseph and Blanche Marie Stapleton.

When Ellen was young, she and her brother would help her parents take care of children that were placed in their home under the guidance of Angel Guardian Homes. These children had special needs and would be lovingly cared for until proper placement could be found. Ellen’s Parents did an excellent job of taking care of the children and they were exemplary parents. Her father Ray, was a carpenter by trade and worked as a custodian for St. Clare's Church where he put his strong faith into action. 

 Ellen married in the early 60's and had a daughter, Lorraine whom she loved deeply.  She worked for Social Security eventually becoming a US Customs Officer at JFK Airport where she remained for well over 30 years. Ellen loved to travel and had many adventures. She especially liked to take cruises with her daughter and son-in-law, Kevin. 

 A true empathetic soul, she would easily tear up at the plight of others. Ellen would lend an ear to those going through difficulty and be a prayer warrior for their cause. She was touched by the poverty within the Native American community, contributing to causes such as the Southwestern Indian Foundation purchasing stoves, food baskets, and other items. Ellen loved animals and animal rescue organizations, such as ORCA that help animals in urgent need.

 When you would look into the beautiful blue eyes of Ellen, you could get a glimpse of the goodness contained in her soul. Her Catholic faith was strong and provided her guidance in all her actions. Ellen’s daughter Lorraine, meant the world to her. They were not only mother and daughter but best friends. 

 Ellen loved the music of Aaron Neville, going to Doo Wop reunions and plays.  At home, she loved to listen to the music of the Backstreet Boys and even saw them in concert with her daughter Lorraine.  It was good to hear her laugh at the comedy of Peter Sellers as Inspector Clouseau or the antics of Tim Conway and Harvey Korman on the Carol Burnett show.

Ellen’s dogs, Sophie, a Shih Tzu, and Riley, a Cairn Terrier, were a real joy to her. She always had rescue dogs in her life and would make sure that they were given everything they needed including that extra treat or two.

 Ellen is survived by her daughter, Lorraine E. wife of Kevin Keeley, and her brother James Raymond and wife Josephine of Florida, in addition to her nephew Jim Stapleton Jr. and wife Jeanine, their children, Joseph, Josh, Julianna and niece Danielle and husband Lenny, their children Anthony and Lea. 

 A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Leo the Great Catholic Church, 2427 Marietta Avenue, Lancaster, PA 17601 on Wednesday, March 20, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. with the Rev. Peter Hahn, Celebrant. Burial will follow in Saint Joseph's New Roman Catholic Cemetery located at 175 Charles Rd, Lancaster, PA 17603. A visitation will be held between 9:00 a.m. to 10 a.m. to receive the family and pay respects.  Instead of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Southwest Indian Foundation, St. Joseph's Indian School, or the Organization for Responsible Care of Animals (ORCA).

Elisabeth P. Fuhrman, 67, of Columbia PA departed this life on Tuesday, March 5, 2024 after battling a short illness. Born in West Chester, PA to Richard and Barbara Wilkinson Partridge. Beth was the loving wife of Garry W. Fuhrman for 44 years.

Beth was a 1974 graduate of Henderson High School in West Chester and a 1978 graduate of Millersville State College with a Bachelor of Arts in art education. Her post graduate education in art history continued at Millersville University and LaSalle University.

Beth began her teaching career as an elementary art teacher in the public school system of Bridgeton NJ. She also spent six seasons as a Beach Tag Supervisor in Cape May NJ. Beth completed her 34 year teaching career at Warwick High School in Lititz teaching art and art history in 2016. Many of Beth’s students won Scholastic Art Awards at the local, regional and national levels. In 1991, Beth was personally recognized at the Kennedy Art Center in Washington, DC as an outstanding art teacher.

For many years, Beth served as a Sunday School Teacher for the parish nursery at St. Edward’s Episcopal Church. In addition, she was a member of the Altar Guild.

Beth had a talent for restoring old tired houses into properties of beauty, often using antiques and reclaimed materials, which she referred to as a “house’s jewelry.”

In addition to her husband Garry and parents Richard and Barbara Partridge, she is survived by her son, CPT. Chaplain Matthew husband of Jessica Fuhrman; daughter, Katy wife of Tim Hopkinson; six grandchildren, Allie, Katrina, Lara, Brandon, Morgan & John, and her brother Paul husband of Amy Partridge. Beth was preceded in death by her son, CPT. Brandon W. Fuhrman (U.S Army Ranger).

A memorial celebration of Beth’s life will be held at the convenience of her family at a future date. The association coordinates social activities and philanthropic endeavors and aspires to conduct outreach to avoid social isolation of rural residents and support for the sick and home bound.

Kathy A. Budesheim, 73, of Columbia passed away on March 6, 2024. She was born in Columbia to the late Isaiah and Leah Rupley King and was a lifelong resident of Columbia.

Kathy attended Columbia High School and worked for twenty years with QVC until her retirement in 2012. She was a member of the former Columbia #1 Fire Department and an avid Dallas Cowboys fan. Kathy was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt who adored her family and treasured spending time with them.

Kathy leaves behind her husband of fifty-five years, Paul Budesheim, Sr. of Columbia; two children, Paul, Jr., husband of Heather Budesheim of Columbia, Kathy Jo Budesheim of Columbia; three grandchildren, Eric, husband of Amanda Budesheim, Isaiah Budesheim, and Nathan, husband of Alexis Sauder; her sister, Deb, wife of Maurice DiEugenio of Hellam. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Virginia Farley.

On Monday, March 4th the Lord saw fit to take the kindest, gentlest man I ever knew, my brother Jeffrey Keith Goodman.  Jeff had been the ultimate caregiver of our late parents Saul D. and Dorothy J. Goodman, providing the ultimate labor of love and sacrifice. 

Jeff was born on Saturday, October 17th, 1953, he was 70 years of age when he passed away at Morningside Assisted Living in Leesburg, Virginia.

Jeff is survived by his brother Michael D. Goodman, Sister-In-Law Deborah J. Dale, his Goddaughter and Niece Sarah N. Goodman, Niece Margaret (Maggie) E. Goodman and numerous cousins from both the Dorothy Dietz and Saul Goodman Families. With special appreciation to the Jane and Rick Bender families and Jeff’s girlfriend Angela Pantoni.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday March 16th at: The Clyde W. Kraft Funeral Home at 519 Walnut Street in Columbia Pennsylvania 17512, interment will follow at Holy Trinity Cemetery in Columbia Pennsylvania.  A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

John A. “Johnny” Erisman, 91, of Columbia, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 3, 2024 at Hospice and Community Care in Mount Joy after a long battle with cancer. Born in Lancaster, PA he was the son of the late, John and Mabel (Erb) Erisman. Johnny was married to the late, Mary Erisman for 56 years before her passing in January 2012.

Johnny proudly served in the United States Army in Germany and was employed by PenSupreme for 40 years.  John enjoyed trout fishing. When trout season started, you would know to find him along a stream.  Another one of his passions was playing golf and watching football. His summer vacations with his wife were always a trip to Oak Orchard, DE enjoying the restaurants and shopping. Johnny was a great man who loved to see people happy and giving them a laugh with one of his favorite jokes. He leaves many memories and will be missed by his daughter.

 Johnny is survived by his daughter, Cindy Erisman of Mountville, PA.
